When you’re responsible for everyone and everything, where do you go to think?
You built it. You lead it. Everything still comes back to you. Let’s change how that feels.
Hello, i’m christopher
Originally from Bristol, I can now be found somewhere in London and Kent.
I’ve had a varied career, beginning in business before moving into higher education and eventually becoming a senior leader in a busy inner-London primary school. This was a career I cared deeply about and one that taught me a huge amount about people — pressure, relationships, change, difficult decisions and the many things we can find ourselves carrying while simply getting on with life.
I’ve always been interested in people. What makes us and teams tick, why we sometimes get stuck, and why we can know something needs to change but still find ourselves struggling to make it happen.
Over the years, I became increasingly interested in what happens beyond the roles we play and the responsibilities we take on. What happens when the job, the business, the expectations and the demands of other people start to take up so much space that you lose sight of yourself?
That’s what led me to coaching.
I believe we often know more than we give ourselves credit for. Sometimes we just need the space to slow things down, say things out loud and hear ourselves think.
My coaching is rooted in the ICF Core Competencies, following professional coach training with one of the UK’s leading coach training providers. But qualifications are only part of what I bring. I bring life experience, curiosity, a calm head and a genuine interest in people.
And I don’t take myself too seriously. Coaching conversations can be challenging, but they don’t need to be overly formal or uncomfortable. I want you to feel you can turn up as yourself.
Outside of coaching, my life is pretty ordinary. I enjoy walking, running, playing football when I can, travelling and spending time with family and friends. I’m on my own fitness journey too, so I know that knowing what you should be doing and actually doing it can be two very different things.
i know this work matters because i have sat in that seat.
I know what it feels like to be the person everyone looks to.
To be responsible for decisions that affect other people. To know that there isn’t always a perfect answer, but someone still has to make the call. To leave work physically, but find that your mind has come home with you.
When you’re in a senior leadership role, every decision of consequence can feel like it comes back to you. There isn’t always someone you can be completely uncertain with, so you learn to carry it. You become good at holding the pressure, being the steady one and making the decision because somebody has to.
But over time, that can cost something.
You don’t always switch off when you leave work. You replay decisions, question your judgement and wonder about the impact your choices have had on other people. And when work is demanding, it can spill into home life too — leaving you with less time, energy and headspace for the people who matter most.
Being a business owner can be rewarding, but it can also be lonely. Working on your own or the more senior you become, the fewer places there can be where you can simply say, “I’m not sure.”
From the outside, it can all look assured. Inside, it can feel much less certain.
I know what it’s like to wonder whether the path you’re on is still the path you want. When life looks successful from the outside, but something inside is telling you that something needs to change.
You might be wondering whether you can do it or you’re still enjoying it. Whether the path you’re on is the one you actually want. Whether something needs to change - in your work, your business, your life, or perhaps something within you. You might not know exactly what that change is. You might just know that something doesn’t feel quite right.
That’s where I can help. I’m not there to tell you what to do. I’m in your corner. I’ll listen, ask the questions you might not ask yourself, challenge you when it’s needed and give you the space to work out what you really want.
Because sometimes the change we’re looking for doesn’t begin with changing everything around us. It starts from the inside out.
Our work together will give you the space to think and the clarity to act.
“I’d asked Chris to challenge me rather than just support me, and he did that consistently. It was exactly what I needed.”
